District 17 Public Meeting
The next District 17 Public Meeting will be held on Tuesday, August 24 at Republic Bank, 9600 Brownsboro Road. The meeting will begin at 6:30 p.m. Representatives from LMPD, Metro Public Works, MSD, and Metro Codes and Regulations will be there to share relevant information and answer questions from district residents. If there is a topic you would like discussed or an agency you would like represented at a future meeting, please call Councilman Stuckel at 574-1117. Suburban Street Sweeping
Funding was included in the recent budget for street sweeping in suburban areas. The appropriation will allow for up to three sweepings this fiscal year. Several streets in and around District 17 are scheduled to be cleaned. They include:
· Whipps Mill Road (from Hurstbourne Parkway to LaGrange Road) · Hurstbourne Parkway (from KY 22 to I-64) · LaGrange Road (from North English Station road to Reamers Road) · Collins Lane (from Westport Road to Old LaGrange Road) · Springhurst Boulevard (from Westport Road to Hurstbourne Parkway) · KY 22 (from Brownsboro Road to Chamberlain Lane) · Westport Road (from Shelbyville Road to LaGrange Road) · UPS Drive (from Ormsby Station Road to LaGrange Road) Youth Golf Lessons
Long Run Golf Course is offering young people in District 17 an opportunity to learn some basics about the game of golf. For just $10, boys and girls ages 6-18 can sign up for golf lessons to be held Tuesday, August 10 and Thursday, August 12. The classes will begin at 9 a.m. and last approximately one hour. Refreshments will be provided on both days. Clubs will be made available for those who do not have them. To register, call Councilman Stuckel at 574-1117. Spots are limited and are reserved in the order in which they are taken. Update on Closure of Old LaGrange Road
In early June the Department of Highways District 5 Office temporarily closed a section of Old LaGrange Road just west of Ormsby Lane. This closure was due to the replacement of a bridge in the area. Construction is scheduled for completion by August 15. Retirement of Major Wiley
Major Darice Wiley, Commander of LMPD’s 8th Division, has decided to retire at the end of this month. Many of you have had the opportunity over the last few years to work with her and know how effective she has been. Crime in the 8th Division has dropped each of the last two years when compared to the previous year. Major Wiley has always been accessible, friendly and willing to do whatever she could to address the needs of the residents with whom she worked. She will be greatly missed. Breast Cancer Screening
The Louisville and Jefferson County Partnership in Cancer Control is sponsoring a breast cancer screening at no cost to program-eligible women 40 years of age and older without insurance. The event will be held on Thursday, August 12 from 8:30 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. at Hope Lutheran Church, 4200 Shenandoah Drive. Call the Kentucky Cancer Program at 852-6318 to schedule an appointment. Insurance, Medicare and Medicaid will also be accepted. National Night Out
LMPD’s Eighth Division will host a National Night Out on Tuesday, August 3 from 6-8 p.m. at Westport Village. Research shows that when neighbors know each other and look out for each other crime goes down. Residents will be treated to food, music and activities for children. They will also have an opportunity to:
· Meet with neighbors, police and community leaders · Establish or revive a neighborhood block watch · Receive valuable crime information
For more information, please call the Eighth Division at 574-2258. Emergency Notification
Metro Emergency Management has a way for residents to be notified of weather and other emergency alerts through e-mail, cell phone or pager. If you are interested in signing up, visit www.louisvilleky.gov/EMA. E-mail newsletter
