Speed Humps

Some residents have inquired about the possibility of speed humps to help regulate speed in their neighborhoods.  There are a few basic requirements that have to be met before Metro Public Works will consider moving forward with the process.

  • The street must be at least 1,200 feet in length.
  • A minimum of two speed humps must be installed.
  • The street must not have curves or grades that prevent safe placement of speed humps.
  • The street must have a speed limit of 25 mph.
  • A 48-hour traffic study will be done to determine if the street qualifies for speed humps.  During this study, traffic volume must be more than 300 vehicles and less than 3,000 vehicles.  Also, 85 percent of the vehicles must be traveling 10 mph over the posted speed limit.
